Jesus reached out and helped the vulnerable people on the fringes of society. This is why mission among these people has always been a crucial aspect of Christ Church Central’s work in the local community.
Christ Church Central now has three core strands that make up these Mercy Ministries. These are:
Burngreave Food Bank
Burngreave Food Bank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis. Christ Church Central has teamed up with The Rock Christian Centre in Burngreave who manage the Food Bank. Members of Christ Church Central are encouraged to donate food to dedicated drop off points. The food is then transported over to the Burngreave Food Bank centre for distribution.
Sheffield Pregnancy Counselling Support
Sheffield Pregnancy Counselling Support is an established service in the city run by a group of trained volunteers. They advocate the need for women and their partners to be given time to consider all the emotions and options when faced with an unplanned pregnancy and to be given unbiased information about their choice. They also offer counselling and support for people who have experienced pregnancy loss. Their vision is to reach the men and women in the city of Sheffield and surrounding area who need their services. They aim to have an excellent reputation amongst the general public and with other professionals.
Christians against Poverty is a charity that gives free debt help to anyone in debt. If you need further information visit their website or you can call the free phone number 0800 328 0006 and the head office will put you in touch with a debt coach from your local centre.
Can you help?
We can all join in praying for our city, and for those involved in various ministries. Also, our Mercy Ministries team is currently quite small and needs more assistance. If you (or someone else you know) want to help out in an action-based ministry serving Jesus and helping vulnerable people please get in touch with Nathan Oliver or Joel Rowlands.
