Who we are
Christ Church Central is people who aim to make the message of Jesus and the teaching of the Bible accessible, understandable, relevant and available to everyone.
Vision & mission
Our vision and mission is to take the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ to people in Sheffield who don't yet know him, to be "a church for people who don't go to church". Our mission field include the "new builds" of Sheffield city centre; the networks of church members; families, children and youth; students – both British and International, and the homeless, through church on a bus.
Our values
Christ Church Central was planted in October 2003 from Christ Church Fulwood. As such, our heritage is in Anglican evangelicalism. One of the main features of this legacy is faithful Bible teaching. It’s the Bible that has shaped Christ Church Central’s values:
1. Glorify God alone
We seek to be a fellowship that receives, lives and proclaims Jesus Christ as Lord.
2. Reach out to others
We seek to proclaim the gospel of Jesus by word, practical love and service. We also aim to be pro-actively involved in outreach - personally and corporately.
3. Build up one another
We seek to be a fellowship where the Bible is faithfully taught and members are encouraged to think and live Biblically. We are committed to praying for one another and maintaining Christian friendship that encourages, corrects, forgives, rejoices and weeps together.
4. Send on to all others
We seek to be a fellowship with broad horizons, in partnership with other gospel communities (local and overseas), releasing members when they are called to serve elsewhere.
5. Faithful to our doctrinal roots as Anglican Evangelicals
We are reformed, evangelical, protestant and Anglican. We aim to remain faithful to the ancient creeds (Apostles, Nicene and Athanasian), the Church of England’s 39 Articles of Religion and the doctrines of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.
Our members
Members of Christ Church Central are ...
1. Committed to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour
Martha, one of Jesus first disciples, said to Jesus, "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world." (John 11:27).
'Doubting' Thomas stopped doubting! He acknowledged Jesus: "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28)
2. Committed to the Bible as God's word
Two of Jesus' most significant apostles (men who were personally trained and taught by Jesus) wrote the following:
All scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.
Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16
No prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Peter in 2 Peter 1:20-21
3. Committed to evangelism
Jesus' final commanded to his followers was this:
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
4. Committed to one another as God's family
Through our friendship
Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Love one another earnestly from a pure heart.
Through our prayer
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us ...
I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy.
Through our serving
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another.
There are varieties of service but the same Lord.
Through our giving
... each of you is to put something aside [in keeping with his income]
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
