How Christ Church Central (“we”) use your information
Your privacy is important to us. We are committed to safeguarding the privacy of your information.
It is important that you read this privacy notice together with any other privacy notice we may provide on specific occasions when we are collecting or processing personal data about you so that you are fully aware of how and why we are using your data.
Data Controller
Christ Church Central is the data controller and responsible for your personal data. Christ Church Central is incorporated as a company limited by guarantee (CRN: 05062314) whose registered office address is at DQ Centre, Fitzwilliam Street, Sheffield, S1 4JR. Christ Church Central is also a registered charity in England and Wales with charity no. 1102856.
Why are we collecting your data?
We collect personal data to provide appropriate pastoral care, to monitor and assess the quality of our services, to fulfil our purposes as a church and to comply with the law. In legal terms this is called ‘legitimate interests’. When it is required, we may also ask you for your consent to process your data. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us using the details below.
We may also collect and process personal data in the following circumstances:
- we have a contractual obligation;
- we have a legal obligation;
- we have a vital interest; or
- we need it to perform a public task.
Examples of some of the ways in which we use your data are to:
- provide charitable activities to the general public in accordance with our constitution;
- maintain church membership records and our electoral roll;
- fundraise and promote the interests of the charity;
- manage our trustees, staff and volunteers;
- maintain our own accounts and records;
- process a donation or payment that you have made (including the processing of Gift Aid information);
- carry out comprehensive ‘safeguarding’ procedures with the aim of ensuring that all children and adults-at-risk are provided with safe environments;
- enable us to meet all legal and statutory obligations;
- minister to you and provide you with pastoral and spiritual care (such as visiting you when you are ill or bereaved) or to provide services for you, such as baptisms, weddings and funerals; or
- inform you of news, events, activities and services running at Christ Church Central.
By providing personal information such as your name and email address via forms on our website, via ChurchSuite or any other method, you agree to us contacting you with regard to the information you request. Some forms also include a check box asking you for permission for us to add you to our mailing list. This is an opt-in mailing list and your personal information will be used solely by us. You can unsubscribe at any time.
The categories of information that we may collect, hold and share include:
- Personal information (such as name, telephone number, address and email address)
- Characteristics (such as gender, marital status, language, date of birth)
- Special categories of personal data (such as your religious beliefs, or racial or ethnic origin)
Storing your data
We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting or reporting requirements.

Security of your data
We have put in place commercially reasonable and appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your personal data to those employees, volunteers or trustees who have a legitimate need to access that information.
We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and the ICO where we are legally required to do so.
Who do we share your information with?
We will share your personal data with third parties where we are required by law, where it is necessary to perform or administer the services we provide, or where we have another legitimate interest in doing so. “Third parties” includes third-party service providers that we use to assist in providing our services.
Information may be shared between Christ Church Central trustees, staff or with authorised volunteers in order to effectively carry out our functions and provide services and activities to you.
We may disclose information we hold about you:
- if we feel there is a legitimate interest for us to do so;
- if it is necessary for law enforcement or similar purposes, including safeguarding or the processing of DBS checks or providing information to our auditors;
- as a necessary part of providing you with our services – for example, we use ChurchSuite to provide a cloud based database and communication solution;
- as part of our membership of the Anglican Mission in England (AMiE) – for example, to enable AMiE to assist with maintaining high levels of integrity across the wider AMiE network or to deal with specific governance or pastoral issues which may arise; or
- as a necessary part of ensuring we comply with our legal obligations as a data controller – for example, sending information to HMRC for Gift Aid purposes.

- Our accountants, auditors and other professional advisors
We also use WhatsApp as a communication tool. Official groups set up by Christ Church Central will be administered and used in accordance with our WhatsApp Use Guidelines (available on request). We are not responsible for any non-official WhatsApp groups relating to activities at Christ Church Central.
Requesting access to your personal data

- prevent processing for the purpose of direct marketing;
